A Vintage Postcard Tour of Beantown, Boston 1905

A Vintage Postcard Tour of Beantown, Boston 1905

There always seems to be a variety of postcards to pick through in most of the stationary or souvenir store when you travel. For just a dollar or two, I found myself collecting them. Especially collecting vintage postcard, which you can find through antique or museum stores. I got this Boston vintage postcards pocketbook set from a historic house museum I visit in Beacon Hill. Boston. Each card is a portrait of history in time. It describe the time period and even the latest fashion trends or architectures. It’s also lots of fun to go through them and discover the historical perspective as well.

So here are some of the Boston postcards from 1905-1920 that I scan. Most of them were hand colored, because this was before the cameras time. However, this makes each postcard an individual work of art. scroll through them and I bet you recognize most of the sites on these vintage postcards, Enjoy!

2 Beautiful Bolt Wallpaper Designs

2 Beautiful Bolt Wallpaper Designs

Every now and then at Disney – DIMG I get to work on a personal project to give to my co-workers. My task was to create a wallpaper based on my favorite Disney character. This is a very fun project because as a kid I grew up watching all of the Disney classic animated films – from 101 Dalmatians, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Bambi, Lady And The Tramp, and so many others. You get the deal, the list can go on. All in all, I found myself really caring about the characters in the film and how their story was told.

I decide to use “Bolt”, one of the best animated feature films from Walt Disney, for my wallpaper. Bolt is one of my favorite animated characters of all time. It has the perfect balance of everything. It’s entertaining, heartbreaking and a touching story-line. Especially since I have a pug I can relate to Penny when she lost Bolt. Overall this is a really cute film with top notch animation. As I found myself designing this wallpaper with Bolt in it, I couldn’t help thinking about my pug “Rini” and how great a “friend” she is to me.

Below are the final wallpapers I shared with my co-workers at Disney. I hope you enjoy them as well.

20 Cool Asian Movie Posters

20 Cool Asian Movie Posters

What else do you enjoy the most besides designing? I love to watch movies, especially Asian movies. When it comes down to the movie selection, I always want to look at the movie poster first.

There are so many great movie posters out there. To me, a great movie poster has to be intriguing, inspiring and one that tells a story. It should be original and beautiful. Ignoring the title, I want to be fascinated by the graphics and learn about the movie simply from the visuals. I want to know if it is a scary, funny, romantic or suspenseful movie based on the poster. Not surprisingly, all my friends known me as the “movie poster over the wiki plot” type of girl. These graphic visuals play a big part for me in the process of selecting which DVDs to watch. I have been watching alot of Thai movies recently, and I love every single one of them. Looking at another culture’s poster design is another source of inspiration for me. It is a departure from North American cinematic aesthetics. I’ve collected 20 cool Asian movie posters for your inspiration. I hope you enjoy them.

Wuchang Skateboards Design

Wuchang Skateboards Design

I recently watched a movie called Ghost of Girlfriends Past. The plot talks about a guy who is haunted by the ghost of his past girlfriends. The story is very similar to Christmas Carol, where each ghost takes you to a different time in your life. As you may recall there is a grim reaper that shows up in the story of Christmas Carol and he looked scary with a skull head.

So, why am I talking about grim reaper in my design blog and it’s not even Halloween yet. Well, I just found an interesting skateboard design with Chinese grim reaper illustrations on it. They are called the Black and White Wuchang. In Chinese mythology, they are the grim reapers from hell whose responsibility is to pick up the spirit from the dead person.

This skateboard set is already in the Chinese market, designed by a young talented designer name Ray. He’s currently 21 years old and studies at Qing Hua College in China. This design grabs my attention right away. The mix of design elements on the skateboard using Chinese decorative elements are very unique and makes me want to explore more of these Asian decorative elements.
