Florence for Foodies: Inside San Lorenzo Market
Walking around Florence is such a delightful experience. We walked towards Piazza dell Mercato and came across the San Lorenzo Market. This lively street market is open from Tuesday to Saturday. You will see vendors selling everything from leather goods, Florentine papers to souvenirs and much more. This is a big outdoor market where the hawkers calling out to grab your attention. I bought a soft leather belt for 18 Euro which I bargained down from 20 Euro. You can tell that I'm not so good when it comes to bargaining.
As we walked a little bit more we passed by a large building called the central market, San Lorenzo Mercato Centrale. We saw a fascinating selection of produce of all kinds, from cheese, salami, wine and many other Tuscan products. We just wandered around and sampled few of the products. We left the market with the delicious Tartuff (which the owner had us sample), a bottle of Limoncello and some beautiful photos I took from the market.

We usually have this kind of salami at home. It’s pretty good for various sandwiches
I love Mediterranean food. Great photos, Sarah.

You sure make it look attractive! Nice post. You can certainly buy these items in USA, but the atmosphere is not the same.

I suddenly have a craving for prosciutto, melon and cheese. Throw in a little Chianti wine and I’m in heaven.

Plenty of good food there! Though I have to say I prefer Spain’s jamon serrano vs Italy’s proscciuto

wow, lovely photos.
I suppose visiting the market when going overseas for a holiday is the best way to experience the true lifestyle of the locals.
The colors, the noise, the smell… so vibrant so full of energy.
But wow..things are surely expensive there.

Yea the thing about that market is that everyone speaks itlian inside. It feel more local and that you're in Italy. When you're in the city center every place you go everyone speaks English. Like the truffle paste owner keep saying Italian to me want me to try it out. hahah I just keep saying Si,... si...lol

Does that sign say 35 euros for a pair of shoes? I think I might have to stick to South American markets. Awesome pics nonetheless! The salame looks delish!

Great photos! The market looks like a colorful place to spend an afternoon. Were the prices insane, since they are in Euros and you are coming from the US?

Wonderful photos my friend and thanks for making me relive my visit to Florence and the wonderful markets that are all over the city. Now, I just wish I had a San Lorenzo Market in Mt. Dora, Florida!

Once again Sarah, fantastic pictures. How do you keep doing it?
On another note, I love walking around markets, where they let you taste the food. Got some lovely creamy cheese from a market the other day. I must of ate six spoonfuls before I bought any though, it was so delicious. Market food always is I think.

I love marketplace photography! These pictures are great… especially the cheese! I wish I had a massive chunk of cheese like that in my fridge to gnaw on whenever I got hungry.
That marketplace is where I bought my belt and gloves! It’s such a great market. One of the best.
